Important Information for the Castore Ilkley Summer 7s this Saturday 5th July!

Firstly, we’ve had a Mens Open team unfortunately drop out so we are looking for players (or a team if possible) to create a Babaas squad to fill in the missing spot. There are already a few great players but we’re looking for a few more so please either DM IRFC or @og.sevens to help out the tournament.

Upon entry you will be given a wristband, which you must wear for the full duration of your time at the 7s Festival. If you’re not wearing a wristband you will be asked to purchase a ticket on sight.

Your wristband also gets you access to Yard for the official Ilkley Summer 7s After Party.

Sam’s progress this season has been all down to the work he’s put in. He sought advice from the S&C team, showed up consistently to training, and committed fully to improving his game.

That effort paid off as he became a regular starter for the 2s and played a big role in locking down the scrum. A standout year, and plenty more to come. 👏👏👏

Next up in our 2024/25 Club award spotlight is our Clubman of the Year, Harry Smith! 🏆

Harry started the season facing a tough spell on the sidelines, but he didn’t let that slow him down. Instead, he used the time to get into the best shape of his life and found new ways to support the club off the pitch, from writing match reports to helping behind the scenes on game days.

His hard work and attitude paid off, returning late in the season to run out for the 1st XV once again.

A class example of what being a Clubman is all about. 👏👏👏

Jack Popely won our 2024/25 Club Most Improved Player award and it was certainly deserved! 🏆

Jack made the sudden and dramatic transition from front row to scrum half this season. He learnt an incredibly complex position quickly and balanced playing both positions this year to accommodate his team. A hard-working and committed player through and through! 💪💪

Our 1st XV travel to Heath to play their last match of the 2024/25 season tomorrow with KO at 15:00. Huge congratulations to Ollie Ham who celebrates his 50th Cap - well done Hammy!

Unfortunately, the 2nd XV fixture against Heath 2nd XV at Stacks Field has been called off. However, the 2nd XV has drawn Wharfedale Away in the next round of the Aire Wharfe Cup.

The Wharfedale match should be played on either Tuesday 15th or Wednesday 16th of April likely around 7pm at Wharfedale. Details TBC and will be shared when confirmed.

The Leys bid farewell to the Yorkshire Colts League with their last game at Cross Green against York this Sunday with KO at 12:00. On 13th April, the Colts will play Scunthorpe Colts in the Yorkshire Bowl Final, and end their age grade rugby.

Stacks Field is also hosting the U17’s Yorkshire Cup Finals Day on Sunday with two matches on display. Doncaster take on Pontefract at 12:30 for the Yorkshire Plate and Aireborough face Guisborough at 15:00 for the Cup Final.
