Ilkley 54 – York 31
The new season got underway at Stacks Field with Ilkley claiming a convincing 54–31 victory over York. Both sides came into the game with points to prove, and it showed in a lively opening spell full of penalties, yellow cards, and hard collisions.
Ilkley’s pack laid a solid platform, while the backs, led by a standout performance from our full-back Ben Magee, showed real pace and precision. Two first-half tries gave the Dalesmen the edge at the break, before a dominant start to the second half saw the scoreboard tick quickly in our favour.

York kept battling and were rewarded with four tries of their own, but Ilkley’s composure in attack and resilience in defence proved the difference.
A well-taken interception try by Harry Harrison, some clinical finishing in the wide channels, and a powerful catch-and-drive ensured the points stayed in Wharfedale.
The final whistle blew with Ilkley deserved 54–31 winners, a strong start to the campaign and a marker laid down for the season ahead.
