Simon Richmond Obituary

Simon Richmond was fatally injured in a road accident just east of Otley on Friday 9th October.

Simon was a Ilkley Rugby Club 1st XV player throughout the late 1960’s and ‘70’s. He was a feisty centre/full back or indeed, as it was in those days, any position he could get a game. He was a loyal and competitive player and during his heyday a regular trainer on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Once his playing days were over he was a regular attendee at the club’s home games and always had an opinion post-match about the game and its nuances.

Simon had a great sense of humour and a relaxed manner. He was one of a unique number of people in this world who didn’t seem to be bothered by anything.

He will be sadly missed by everyone whose path through life he touched.

We extend the club’s condolences to all his family and his many friends.

May he rest in peace.
